Budget

Settle Town Council is required to set a budget for each financial year, and it is this budget that determines the local council element of your Council Tax Bill. The amount varies by the Council Tax Band of your home. The Council has set a precept for 2026/27 of £183,210.

Settle Town Council have set the 2026/27 budget. Councillors reviewed every cost and revenue line in the Council’s activities and at its meeting on 8 December, set the Precept raising £183.210, an increase of £10,550 on the current year. This will feed through to your Council tax bill, and the effect will be an increase of £6.28 per year on a Band D property.

The increase in spending is mainly due to upgrading programmes, including play areas, street lighting (with LED lights), and benches. The budget includes £2,000 for grants to local organisations. The grant process and application form is being reviewed and will be published on the Council’s website.

The Council also raises money from income from services it provides like the Tuesday Market, the hiring of the marketplace, allotments and the cemetery,

We are all familiar with our own rising costs, and the Council is committed to creating reserves and ring-fencing expenditure to provide financial security and offset future costs. It is committed to strong financial management throughout the year.

Settle Town Council believes the modest increase is necessary to maintain the services it provides for the Town and wider community. The full budget can be viewed in the below document and is also available on request from the Clerk:  clerk@settletowncouncil.gov.uk or ring the office on 01729 823617.
